Fun and Delicious Graduation Cake Ideas

Easy Graduation Cake Ideas

Preparing for any event can be stressful, particularly when it’s being hosted at your own home and you are responsible for the snacks, decorations, and the cake. If your son or daughter is graduating, you are probably already thinking about throwing some sort of party or small celebration. With that comes the responsibility of making food, buying all of the extras, and baking the cake. If you plan to make a homemade cake for your child’s graduation, here are some graduation cake ideas to help make the whole event less stressful:

Plan ahead: Decide on the cake’s flavors and theme well ahead of time. Since this is the most important part of the cake equation, you definitely want to have this decided far in advance. Talk to your graduate and see what kind of cake and icing flavors he or she would like to have and then make a list of the ingredients you will need. Sketch out an idea of what you will want the final decorated cake to look like.

Prepare the size: It is important to think about the cake-to-person ratio when making a cake for a party. Make the cake too small, and you will be cutting it into tiny pieces so that there will be enough for everyone. Make it too large, and you will end up with way too many leftovers. Try to plan for approximately one and a half pieces per person. Odds are good that most folks will only eat one piece, but then again, it will be so delicious that they may come back for seconds.

Have everything ready: On the day before or the day of the party, be sure you have all ingredients and the cake topper ready to go. You don’t want to have to spend the day running back and forth to the store to pick up that extra bottle of vanilla extract or another half dozen eggs. By writing everything down in advance and buying it on time, you will save yourself much unneeded stress.

Take pictures: You don’t want to forget the big day of the graduation party, and you definitely don’t want all of your hard work to be gobbled up before you can get a good photograph of it. Get a nice shot of the graduate with the cake, and one good picture of the cake alone, so you can show everyone all of the hard work you put into making it. It also makes a great item to add to the graduation scrapbook, and a great way to show relatives and loved ones who couldn’t be there what the cake looked like.

Prepare for leftovers: No matter how many great graduation cake ideas you go through, and how much planning you do, you may end up with some cake left over. Offer to send your guests home with a slice of cake but if you’re still left with lots of leftover cake, separate the remaining pieces and freeze them individually.  You can always thaw a piece out as you want it and eat it later on.
